Over the years, working with hundreds of clients, we’ve noticed something fascinating – people tend to approach their health and weight loss goals in very different ways.
We’ve narrowed it down to four main “health” personality types. Each one has its own quirks, strengths and, yes, a few challenges too. So, let’s meet them…

1. The Enthusiast
The Enthusiast is that friend who decides on Sunday night that they’re going to lose two stone, run a marathon, and give up carbs – all by next Friday. They’re confident, motivated, and ready to go – but they often set themselves up with unrealistic goals. When things get tough (as they usually do), they can feel deflated and give up quicker than a January gym membership.
What works for them? Small wins. They need bite-sized, realistic goals spread out over time, plus plenty of encouragement and check-ins to keep their motivation topped up. Oh, and don’t forget to celebrate every single victory, no matter how small
– Enthusiasts thrive on it!

2. The Perfectionist
If there’s a spreadsheet involved, the Perfectionist has it covered. They love the details – not just the “what” but the “how” and the “why.” If you tell them to follow a meal plan, they’ll want the science behind it, a breakdown of the macros, and possibly a weekly progress report.
They’ll probably send you questions (lots of them), but it’s not because they’re being difficult – it’s just how they feel in control. They want precision, clarity, and structure. What works for them? Giving them what they need upfront. Find out how they like to work and give them a plan that fits. If they want to track every calorie, brilliant – let them. It keeps them motivated, and that’s what matters.

3. The Rebel
Ah, The Rebel – the “you can’t tell me what to do” type. They’ll question everything, but not because they want the details (like The Perfectionist) – they just like doing things their own way.
In groups, they might resist the exercises or make cheeky comments. One-to-one, they’ll nod politely… and then go off and do it differently anyway. Frustrating? Sometimes. Rewarding when you figure them out? Absolutely.
The key with Rebels is not to fight them. Instead, turn the conversation back to them: “How would you make this work?” or “What’s your way of tackling it?” When they feel ownership, they’ll surprise you – and often become your most committed clients.

4. The Realist/Conformist
And finally, we have The Realist (or Conformist). These clients are an absolute dream. They follow the plan, listen carefully, and rarely overcomplicate things. They’re disciplined, grateful, and generally a joy to coach. The only catch? Without ongoing structure, they might slowly slip back into old habits. That’s why they benefit from regular check-ins and accountability, even after their main coaching programme has finished.
Final Thoughts
Whether you’re an overexcited Enthusiast, a detail-loving Perfectionist, a rebellious rule-breaker, or a steady Realist – the key is this: understanding your health personality can help you get better results.
